Horyu-ji,was founded in 607 by Prince Shotoku. The temple has the oldest wooden buildings in the world.
Horyu-ji is divided into two wings. The woode-grain patterns created by pressing the walls with boards, thought to make the walls earthquake resistant.
The famous statue Miroku Bosatsu is slender, youthful figure, fingers of the right hand poised near the cheek, head tilted forward as if listening, eyelids lowered,is meditating on the sufferings of mankind.
The temple is something of a time capsule preserving hundreds of art works from the 7th and 8th centuries, and pivotal figure who established Chinese culture in Japan.
